About the Speaker:
Pai-Hsiang Chou is a Professor in Computer Science at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He received his bachelor’s from UC Berkeley and his MS and PhD from University of Washington. Before joining NTHU, he was a Professor in EECS at University of California, Irvine. He served as Program Co-Chair for the International Conference on Hardware/Software Co-Design and System Synthesis (CODES+ISSS) 2003 and for the International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design (ISLPED) 2012. He was a recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. His research interests include low-power design, wearable IoT systems, design automation for embedded systems, and energy harvesting.
Talk Abstract:
Advances in high-performance, low-power electronics and communication technologies have made possible miniature wearable medical devices that can monitor patients beyond the clinic and hospitals. This talk describes a number of wearable medical devices constructed at the speaker’s lab for patient monitoring with high precision in the sense of representative coverage in time, space, and scenarios. The devices include a wearable 12-lead ECG, a wearable asthma-monitoring patch, a CPR data logger, and a real-time COPD monitor. Preliminary results on AI training models are also reported.
